Season 1; Episode 20: Growing Up

Meet Nandish, an agricultural scientist, lead grower at a vertical farm, and passionate horticulturalist. In this conversation, Nandish and I talk about the benefits of growing a kitchen garden, the pros and cons of vertical farming versus traditional farming, avoiding burnout when you work in manual labor, and a short introduction to hydroponic farming.

Nandish is one of the most passionate podcast guests I’ve had on, we literally talked for hours and I feel like we only scratched the surface of what I wanted to talk with him about. He is a wealth of knowledge on all things farming and finance and I loved listening to his career journey in the agriculture industry. In this conversation, we talked about:

  • Growing up in India and developing a passion for growing food by growing a kitchen garden

  • Choosing agriculture as a career path, following his passion instead of a paycheque

  • Being an international student at UFV and completing a Bachelor of Agricultural Science

  • The berry farms that drew him to the Fraser Valley and his practicum working at Baker Breeze Farm in Abbotsford

  • How he came to work at Quantotech Solutions and Northern Green Hydroponics

  • The pros and cons of traditional agriculture versus vertical farming

  • An introduction to hydroponic farming

  • His day-to-day life as a lead grower at a vertical hydroponic farm

  • His advice for anyone who wants to pursue a more fulfilling career that they’re passionate about
